Dallas Project | The Dining Room

This gorgeous dining room is part of a Dallas residence that I have been working on over the past year.  Some other spaces in this home, that I have previously shown you, are the master bedroom and master bath
This home is new construction, but was designed to include lots of the charm you would expect to find in an older home.  This home's plan is based on a center hall Colonial concept but with modern adaptations that worked for this adorable family.
One of my favorite design elements in this dining room are the upholstered walls.  We chose a fabric in a crisp, trellis pattern with light crewel work.  It really sets this room apart and adds that perfect punch of pattern!  We felt like the walls really shine on their own and so we didn't want to add any art on top of the pretty fabric.
This dining room is very spacious, so we were able to furnish it with a dining table capable of comfortably seating 10.  We opted for cushy upholstered chairs that make lingering at the dinner table enjoyable.  A custom linen bordered sisal lays underfoot, anchoring the room while also providing a wonderful, natural texture.
I love this burnished brass bar cart paired with lots of silver bar accessories.
Looking back into the dining room from the butler's pantry.
Modern gold leafed gourd lamps with lucite bases playfully interact with the distressed planter's buffet and the antique-inspired Louis XVI mirror.  I love the tension that is created when you mix old and new.
In this last image, you can see the relationship of the dining room to the entry hall.  The front door is immediately to the right, with the staircase centered in the entry foyer, in center hall Colonial fashion.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing another space in this lovely Dallas home.  There is more to come.

My husband and I just returned from an amazing 'babymoon' vacation to Boston and Nantucket.  It was like a storybook and I can't wait to show you what we saw.  If you follow me on Instagram you've already seen some lovely little snippets of the fairytale-like island.  It was truly the perfect trip and I can't wait to return someday.
In baby news, I'm now just a little over 6 months and doing well :-)  For those that didn't see on Instagram, we are having a little boy!  My husband, Frank, is a third, so our new little guy will be James Frank Beck IV and we are planning on calling him James.  We are very excited!!!

I hope you're getting a great start to the summer and if you're in Texas, staying cool, whew!

Center Hall Colonial | Master Bath

This lovely bath is part of a total home project I've been working on from the beginning of construction.  It is a true Center Hall Colonial style home from the Colonial Revival Style and it, along with it's owners, have been a joy!  I love this period and style of architecture and there is nothing better for a designer than to work on something that she would love to have for herself!
We wanted to respect the integrity of the architecture by selecting most materials and finishes that were indicative of the style and period.  There are several French influences throughout the home as well, which appeals to the lady of the house.  I think that these have worked beautifully together.

I designed the vanity wall, above, with faux columns and arched recessed mirrors flanked by sconces with a beautifully aged (forced of course, as these are reproduction) silver patina.  This division of the mirrors is so much more appealing than the 'wall-of-mirror' that so many builders resort to these days.  If you have the 'wall-of-mirror' in your bath, don't feel bad, I do too (I didn't select it, it was in our home when we bought it).  If tearing it down isn't an option try hanging a decorative framed mirror on top of it (which is what I did).  This simple solution works wonders!
We selected a lovely cast iron vintage style free-standing tub.  This isn't period accurate but not everything is :-)
Notice the French inspired chandy above the tub.  It works beautifully within the space, along with the French inspired, functional, buffalo check drapery panels.
The glorious bathtub.  I have to admit I'm a bit jealous of this ;-)...and the beautiful hardware....  Swoon!
There will be plenty more to come from this lovely home!
I have absolutely loved working with this darling family!  I can't wait to show you what we have done :-)
I hope you're getting a great start to the week!

Collected

This wonderfully collected and eclectic living room is just off of this kitchen that I recently showed you.  These wonderful clients had lots of fun pieces that were inherited through their family and they wanted to include them in their new design.  We added lots of fresh new pieces, like the Lucite console behind the sofa, to balance the old and give the space a 'collected over time' vibe and prevent the room from feeling like a room full of old furniture.
This fabulous sofa, that was inherited from her mother, is one such example of this as well.  I blogged about it's drastic makeover here.  The bright new fabrics and modern bolster, as opposed to typical throw pillows, have given this piece a brand new life.
The touch of zebra layered on top of the jute rug underfoot gives a touch of playful pattern.
We designed a fun, and a bit funky, little powder bath that is off of this space as well.  That will be coming up soon.
We have been tackling lots of home improvement projects around our house lately.  I love that about spring!  I'm in my second trimester now and loving the return of my energy, thank you Lord!  One project that I'm super excited about is a harlequin espalier wall in the courtyard at the front of our house.  I've had several people express some interest in how we are doing this, so stay tuned for a post to fill you in :-)
I hope you're getting a great start to the week!

Petite & Polished

This sweet, little kitchen is part of a new construction project that was designed to look old.  I wish that there was more new construction out there that was modeled after the classics, but that's just me.
This space is clean lined, bright and has just the right amount of vintage charm.  We opted for a taupe color on the island that complements the dining room that is parallel and open to the kitchen.
Beveled subway tiles and honed Cararra marble complete the monochromatic palette.  I wonder when I'll tire of these building elements.
We specified a stainless steel apron front sink for it's clean-ability.
I'll be back soon with the fun, eclectic living room that is right off of this sweet, little kitchen.
I hope you all had a blessed Easter!  If you follow me on Instagram then you've already seen some of our Easter fun.  Easter is a time for celebration indeed.  He is Risen!
I hope you're getting a great start to the week!

The Serenity Continues...

...from the master bedroom into the lovely master bath in this pretty, monochromatic suite.  We carried the gray palette into the bathroom with loads of delicious Cararra marble on pretty much every surface.  It's clean, simple and tailored, and in my opinion, simplicity is beautiful!
How about that bathtub?  Perfect right?!
The shower is decked out with Cararra bricks and a grounding gray, hexagon mesh floor.
If you can avoid the "wall of mirror" over a vanity, do it, it looks much more custom to individualize the vanities and, frankly, it is just more interesting to look at than a full wall reflection of the room.
Those ball and claw feet vintage-ly divine!!
We opted for a large scale herringbone on the floor and I love the effect!
I just love how this space turned out!  If I lived here it would be all too tempting to lock myself into this lovely suite!
I'm so excited for Easter next week!  It is one of my favorite celebrations! I hope you're all planning something fun!
Happy weekend!
