Dallas Project | The Family Room

Hello lovelies!  Thanks for stopping by Live Beautifully :-)
Today I bring you a little more from my pretty Dallas project.  If this is your first glimpse and you'd like to see more of this home, you can check out previous posts about the dining room, master bedroom and master bathroom.
I adore the serenity of the palette that we chose for this home.  The palette's continuity throughout the home is peaceful, comforting and relaxing as you walk from space to space.
The beautiful family room and kitchen are truly the heart of this home, just as they are in so many homes.  This family has two young girls and spends much of their time in this area.  This space needed to function as a true family room while still maintaining a bit of structure, since it also serves as a "formal" living room for entertaining etc.  We chose family friendly fabrics, like the easily wipe-able leather ottoman cocktail table and the heavily patterned custom sisal rug, to name a couple.  Pieces like these are live-able and worry free but they still hold their structure well and in doing so maintain a clean lined and tailored space.

In previous posts I've mentioned that this home is new construction, but that we wanted it to feel that it wasn't.  We achieved this aesthetic by adding several design elements to the architecture and finish out of the home that you would typically find in older construction.  On the fireplace, in the family room, we selected a traditional millwork surround with dental moulding and finished the firebox surround out with newly painted brick.  I love that this gives this room an illusion of patina even though it is brand new.
Lighting is my favorite part of the specification process, paying particular attention to the decorative light fixtures, and this home was no exception.  The lighting can make or completely break the aesthetic, especially when you are trying to give the home an aged feel!  This antique brass classic ring chandelier feels a bit historic but still meshes beautifully with the 'new traditionalist' interiors.
Do you spy the classic Hicks pendants in the kitchen?  I'm still not tired of seeing these beauties!
Speaking of the kitchen...in these last images, you catch a glimpse of the gorgeous kitchen coming up next...

I hope you're getting a great start to the week!
