Serene...that's the first word I think of when I'm in this space.  I recently completed this Dallas master bedroom and the client and I couldn't be more pleased with the soothing palette and unfussy lines.  It's one of those spaces where you can sit back and take deep breaths.  It's crisp and relaxing.

The cool gray walls and warm gold accents are one of my favorite couples.  They just work so well together!  Don't be afraid to mix your metals either.  Notice our chandelier is polished nickel.  I love it when everything isn't 'matchy-matchy'.

Also note the scale of our bachelor chest nightstands.  One of the most common mistakes I see in my client's homes, when I first come in to help, are nightstands and bedside lamps that aren't the correct scale.  Push the limit with these pieces!  You'll be surprised how much bigger your space looks when you use larger pieces.

Keep your nightstands clutter free.  Dress them up.  This is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night.  Use items that relax you and make you happy, like your favorite photos, flowers or simple trinkets.  Simple is the key word here.  A nightstand can get bogged down really quick.  If you have lots of little things you love, switch them out often. They don't all have to be displayed at the same time.

Isn't the beginning of a new month such an energizing time?  It's a fresh start.  I particularly love April.  Easter and celebrating our Savior is right on the horizon.  Spring temps, windows open and the greening up of everything makes me want to tackle tasks.  We live in South Texas, so luckily we are already experiencing Spring, sorry Northern people :-/  I began some planting yesterday...petunias, salvia, snapdragons, dahlias.  Got my herbs in too...sweet basil, flat leaf Italian parsley, cilantro, rosemary.  We've got lots more to do but it's a good start.

Miley's Room

Sweet little Miley's room!  This was such a fun space to create!  Miley is artistic and fun, and when I presented this palette to her mama we knew it was a winner.  Miley loved it and it was a go!
I love the mix of old and new that we were able to achieve in her space.  It gives the space some patina and I think that is something that is often forgotten in spaces for children.  I think it is so refreshing to see a child's room that they can grow with and doesn't look like it just came out of a box.  I'm a momma, so I completely understand if you can't get it past your kiddo to do what 'you'd like to do' with their space, but it sure is nice while we still have a say huh?! ;-)

I didn't get a great picture of her art wall but we framed a dance costume from when she was little bitty, along with some of her art, and we made a collage with some other sentimental family items.

You can also see her darling chandelier hanging from vaulted ceilings.  This room is a little girl's dream!  Fortunately, Miley's room also adjoins a playroom loft, so we were able to keep the clutter and toys in that space and keep her space fairly neat and tidy.

We also did Miley's adjoining bathroom within the space.  We found the most beautiful Calacatta slab for her countertops.  The veining was absolutely perfect!  We coupled that with an octagon and dot mosaic floor and crystal knobs on her cabinet doors.

I would have loved this space as a little girl!  I hope that Miley enjoys it for years to come!

 

It's crazy that this is my first time to blog this year!  I'm busy but not that busy, sheesh.  Where does the time go?!  I carried my 'year of organization' goal into 2014.  I was so successful with this goal last year and tackled so many organization projects that were hanging over my head that I'd like to continue to make it a priority this year as well.  It has always been a priority at the back of my head but I really made an effort to be intentional about it last year and it has really paid off.  I'll be blogging about some of my projects on here when I get a chance, most notably my pantry project which I documented some of the progress on Instagram and it seemed that you guys were interested in seeing more of that fun space. It is a dream pantry and one of the reasons that I really love my house!

Bunny Had A Birthday

My sweet little Bunny turned two!  I can hardly believe it!  You hear "where has the time gone" time and time again, but seriously, where has the time gone?!  She is such a blessing to us and I really can't imagine my world without my girl.  She is such a delightful child and it brings me to tears if I think too much about how much I love her.

We threw her a fun little party to celebrate.  Since it is kind of design related, (I like to see party décor, so I thought you might like to as well) I thought I'd do a little blog post.  I kept the colors the same as last year so that I could reuse her decorations.  I changed it up just a bit so that it would feel like a small town county fair, animals and all :-) 

I wish I could just bottle these memories up so that I could pull them out and remember them just the way they were.  It was a really great day!  If this next year is even a smidgen as fun as the last, we are in for quite a fun ride :-)
